User manual creation, explained.

Can I create a user manual for free?

Yes. The free plan includes up to five unpublished drafts and one published manual, unlimited topics, one author, and 250 MB of uploaded media. It includes online publishing, reader search, PDF export, revisions, and backups. No credit card is needed to start.

Can I publish a private manual?

The paid plan supports invited readers and access keys that can expire or be revoked. Public visibility and search engine indexing are separate choices. Drafts remain private, and indexing starts disabled.

Can readers download a PDF?

Yes. Publish a release and choose Generate PDF. The PDF uses the published content; larger manuals may be exported in volumes.

Do saved edits immediately change the published manual?

No. Autosave keeps your draft. Readers see the last published release until you choose Publish again. Revision history lets you review and restore earlier saves.

Does Manual Tools write instructions with AI?

Yes. Choose Create a draft with AI after naming your manual. Supply product details, links, photos, videos and documents, review the proposed outline, then generate editable topics. AI drafts need technical and safety review before publication. Two free AI drafts and the paid plan’s 20 monthly AI drafts share the workspace owner’s Manuals+ Creator allowance.

What happens if I cancel the paid plan?

Your saved work and existing reader access remain available. The workspace owner can edit up to five unpublished drafts and the selected free published manual, and can still read, export, delete content, and revoke access. Additional manuals remain read-only until they fit the free allowance or the subscription is renewed.
